Meet a Member | Gary

We fight together

For our first member feature of 2023, we present a true story of life and death.  Gary suffered a sudden and massive heart attack in 2019, and Rumble Boxing Studios gave him a life-changing opportunity.

How long have you been a RMBL member?

I joined Rumble in spring of 2021.

Heavy Bag?  Personal Training or both?

Both of course.  Each brings a different energy and routine.

Why did you decide to try us out?

I saw that my friend Dani was an instructor at Rumble, on social media.  A few of my friends had recently joined, and encouraged me to check it out, as I was looking for something new.  In November 2019, I suffered a sudden and massive heart attack, and was in cardiac arrest for almost four minutes.  It’s a miracle that I’m alive, and I was in cardiac recovery most of 2020.  My previous fitness regimes weren’t working out, and not what I was looking for.  Rumble represented a new opportunity, and I was hopeful for something life-changing.

What do you love about RMBL?

Rumble is a community.  I’ve made so many friends, and met people with similar life goals. I’d say that Rumble has become an extension of Vince’s personality, one of the original Rumble people from Calgary.  He is positive, energetic, kind, and welcoming.  Those values are present throughout the entire organization. On top of that, it’s the most varied fitness environment I’ve been a part of.

What has RMBL taught you about yourself?

Fitness can be FUN.  When you’re in a room of like-minded people, all hitting a bag, with a common goal and purpose, it’s incredibly invigorating.  The smiles of people leaving heavy bag class – well that’s infectious.

What are some goals for you outside of the gym?

My life goals are much simpler than they used to be.  My health issues have been life altering – and I just want to be around for a long, LONG time.  Enjoy life.  Be happy.  Surround myself with good people.  Be kind, and hope people will return that kindness.  Those are my goals.  Oh, and I’d also like to randomly find $10 million – that’s also a life goal, lol.

What is a unique story about RMBL you would like to share?

It seems a little daunting when you first enter those doors.  I underestimated how welcoming the environment would be.  It’s become another home for me, and so many people.  I’m forever grateful for having walked in.
